Summary
This article guides you through the process of obtaining the latest Discovery firmware from our website, and then using the web interface of the Discovery to upload and apply it.
Obtaining the Discovery firmware
The latest Discovery firmware can be obtained from our website at:
https://www.firesecurityproducts.com.au/
Go to "SUPPORT AND RESOURCES" on the upper right hand side of the page, and then "Downloads and Resources Library". You can filter Brand to "Tecom" and Document type to "Firmware" to see only firmware.
You can also use this link below to browse straight to that section, with the above filters already applied:
Download the latest firmware to a location on your computer.
Upgrading Discovery firmware via the Web interface
1. Finding the Discovery panel on your network
Ensure the Discovery panel is connected to an ethernet network connection. By default, the Discovery is set with DHCP enabled to automatically obtain an IP address.
How to find the IP address of your Discovery panel
Using a RAS keypad, go to the status of the onboard ethernet adapter by pressing the following key combinations:
[Menu] <code> [ENTER] 19 [ENTER] 9 [ENTER] 3 [ENTER] 2 [ENTER] 1 [ENTER] [ENTER]
<code> = the installer code for this panel, which by default is 4346
This will show you the ethernet IP address of the panel currently.
Network configuration
If your network does not assign addresses automatically, you may need to either first connect the Discovery to a network that does and use the Discovery's web interface to set a static IP address, or use a RAS keypad to set a static IP address. Refer to the Tecom Discovery Installation and Quick Programming Manual section titled "Enabling communications" for information on how to configure this.
2. Log in to the Discovery web interface
Now that you have the IP address of the Discovery, you will need to ensure that your computer is either on the same subnet, or able to access the panel at that address. Then log into it's web interface, by entering the IP address of the Discovery into your web browser.
You may receive a certificate warning that your connection isn't private, however this is expected, and to proceed, click "Advanced", and then click the link at the bottom to continue to the page, as shown here:
You should now see the Discovery login screen. Enter the username and password to log in.
• Default username: tecom master
• Default password: 4346
Note: Once you have completed initial setup, you may use the name and PIN of any user with access to menu 19.
3. Upgrading firmware
Once logged in, you will now see the Dashboard, and from here you can see the current firmware version, similar to what is shown in the screenshot here as an example:
Uploading the firmware into the Discovery panel
• Navigate to "19. Install Menu" > "Firmware Settings"
• Click on the folder icon and select the firmware file that you downloaded from the web site (typically this will be a file named something like “Discovery_pcb6028_TSX-1-75784.encfw.webapp”)
• Click the ‘Upload file’ button to begin the upload.
If you scroll down the firmware page, you will see an upload progress bar similar to this screenshot:
Completing the firmware upgrade
• Once the firmware has been uploaded, you will now need to click the ‘Flash and Upgrade Firmware’ button to start the firmware upgrade process, as shown here:
• You will be asked if you wish to continue, with a notice that the panel will reboot once flashing is complete. Choose "Yes" to continue.
The firmware process will begin, and you will see a progress bar somewhat like the following:
NOTE: This process can take a number of minutes, depending on the firmware version being loaded, and how many versions behind your previous firmware may have been. At this point, you can close the web browser window if you wish to, and if you browse back to it again, you will be able to see where the progress is up to, as this upgrade is now being handled inside the Discovery panel itself.
It is IMPORTANT though to NOT remove power to the Discovery control panel during this period, as the firmware upgrade will fail, and may cause unexpected behaviour.
During the last phase of the update, you may notice all devices drop offline or RAS keypads say "System Fault" during this period. This is perfectly normal as Discovery goes offline briefly to complete the firmware upgrade.
The panel will reboot automatically once the firmware upgrade is completed, at which time you may check that the new firmware has installed correctly by browsing to the Discovery web interface again, and checking the current firmware version, as shown at the start of section 3 in this article. You should now see that the new firmware version is listed.
