Introduction
This article covers the migration process from a ChallengerPlus panel to a Discovery panel, using CTPlus version 3.2 or later.
Please be sure to read the Important Preparation section below before attempting the migration.
Important Preparation
It is IMPORTANT to read through the following notes before attempting to perform a migration, as there are some limitations, and in some cases some preparation required for the migration to work successfully.
- Panels must be running ChallengerPlus firmware before the migration. If you wish to migrate a Challenger10 panel, you must first upgrade it to ChallengerPlus firmware.
- If Expanders 1 or 2 are configured, the migration will fail. You will need to go to the Comm Devices form and delete these expanders before performing a migration.
- If the ChallengerPlus panel had a memory expander fitted (and more than 2000 users in CTPlus), the migration will fail with the error as shown below. This is because current Discovery firmware (as at 28th October 2024) only supports up to 2000 users. You will need to go to the Users form and delete enough users so that 2000 or less remain, and then attempt the migration. The error you will see if you have more than 2000 users is as follows:
- If V8 DGPs such as TS0866 or TS0867 4 Door Controllers, or 4 Lift Controllers are configured in the system, these will need to be deleted from the system first using the DGPs form, as V8 door / lift controllers are not supported on the Discovery.
IMPORTANT: If you delete these DGPs, and are not actively connected to the system, you will also need to delete / clear your command queue, so that the commands for the deletion of the V8 DGPs are not sent down to the Discovery once you connect it.
- The Discovery does not support the use of a Modem connection. The Discovery does not support a USB connection at this stage (as at 28th October 2024). Any comms paths configured for either of these (usually comms paths 1 & 2) should have their programming cleared (preferably by using the wizard to set them to "None", or at least un-ticking the "Enabled" tick box) before the migration.
- We also recommend creating a Comms Path ready for an Ethernet network connection, since you will need to connect to the Discovery panel via Ethernet once the migration is done.
How to perform the migration
Migration is performed in CTPlus 3.2 or later by opening the Connections window, and right clicking on the panel in the Connections window that you wish to migrate. As long as this is a ChallengerPlus panel, in the pop up menu, you will see an option to "Convert to Discovery", as shown in the screenshot below:
Selecting this option will perform the migration.
Connecting to the Discovery panel after the migration
After performing the migration, you will need to ensure the Discovery panel is connected to your network, and configured with an IP Address, and comms path for Ethernet connection (use the same comms path that you configured your panel for prior to the migration as mentioned in preparation steps above - as this will then line up correctly once you connect).
You will then need to edit the connection settings of the panel in CTPlus to ensure it is now pointed to the correct IP address and port number for the Discovery panel.
Then once you enable the connection, it should come online with the Discovery panel, and you will then be able to send down all programming.
