IMPORTANT:
When upgrading CTPlus, it is important to note that older versions should not be just upgraded straight to the latest version, since as CTPlus develops, changes are made to the database structure.
To avoid corruptions to your CTPlus database, and potential data loss, CTPlus should be upgraded using a migration path as described below. A backup should also ALWAYS be made before any upgrade.
This article describes the procedure, and migration paths required.
Migrating to the latest CTPlus version:
- ALWAYS make a backup of your CTPlus database using the Tecom DB Maintenance Tool in the Windows task bar before performing any upgrade.
- For all CTPlus versions 2.x prior to 2.5, you must first upgrade to 2.5
- For all CTPlus versions 2.5 or higher, and prior to 2.9, you must first upgrade to 2.9
- You may then upgrade onward from there.
This makes the migration path as follows:
2.x > 2.5 --- then --- (2.5 or 2.6 or 2.7 or 2.8) > 2.9 > 3.x
All upgrades earlier than 2.9 must go via 2.9 before going to a 3.x version.
Example:
An example of this would be, to upgrade from CTPlus 2.5 to version 3.3 (which, at the time of writing this article is the current latest public release), you would follow the following migration path:
- Backup your CTPlus database using the Tecom DB Maintenance Tool in the Windows task bar
- Upgrade CTPlus in the following migration path: 2.5 > 2.9 > 3.3
If you encounter issues:
If you do encounter issues with the upgrade, you may need to uninstall, and install the version you started with again, and restore the backup of the database that you made, and then upgrade via each dot point version.
An example of this, for the example above, when attempting to go from 2.5 to 3.3 would be:
- Uninstall the current version that you have encountered an issue with.
- Re-install CTPlus 2.5
- Restore your CTPlus database backup using the Tecom DB Maintenance Tool in the Windows task bar
- Upgrade CTPlus in the following migration path: 2.5 > 2.6 > 2.7 > 2.8 > 2.9 > 3.0 > 3.1 > 3.2 > 3.3
This should resolve issues with upgrades. However if you are still encountering issues, please reach out to your Distributor, who are our support agents, and they should be able to assist, or escalate the issue if required.
Where to obtain older versions of CTPlus for upgrade migration purposes:
To obtain version that you may require for an upgrade migration path, this will depend how old your CTPlus version is. You can find recent versions on the Aritech website, in the Downloads area. However if the versions you are after are not listed, please reach out to your Distributor, who are our support agents, and they should be able to provide links to those versions for upgrade purposes.
