IMPORTANT:
When upgrading WMS Pro, it is important to note that older versions should not be just upgraded straight to the latest version, since as WMS Pro develops, changes are made to the database structure.
To avoid corruptions to your WMS Pro database, and potential data loss, WMS Pro should be upgraded using a migration path as described below. A backup should also ALWAYS be made before any upgrade.
This article describes the procedure, and migration paths required.
Migrating to the latest WMS Pro version:
- ALWAYS make a backup of your WMS Pro database first using either of the two methods linked below:
WMS Pro Database Backup and Restore using WMS Pro DB Manager
Or for older 1.x versions of WMS Pro - you may need to do this manually:
WMS Pro Database manual Backup and Restore using SQL Management Studio
- Then you may upgrade WMS Pro via one of the two migration paths listed below
The two migration paths available currently are:
1.0 > 2.0 > 2.1 > 2.2
1.0 > 1.2 > 2.1 > 2.2
Example 1:
An example of this would be, to upgrade from WMS Pro 2.0 to version 2.2 (which, at the time of writing this article is the current latest public release), you would follow the following migration path:
- Backup your WMS Pro database using the methods shown further above in this article
- Upgrade WMS Pro in the following migration path: 2.0 > 2.1 > 2.2
Example 2:
An example of this would be, to upgrade from WMS Pro 1.2 to version 2.2 (which, at the time of writing this article is the current latest public release), you would follow the following migration path:
- Backup your WMS Pro database using the methods shown further above in this article
- Upgrade WMS Pro in the following migration path: 1.2 > 2.1 > 2.2
If you encounter issues:
If you do encounter issues with the upgrade, you may need to uninstall, and install the version you started with again, and restore the backup of the database that you made, and then upgrade via each dot point version.
An example of this, for the example 2 above, when attempting to go from 1.2 to 2.2 would be:
- Uninstall the current version that you have encountered an issue with.
- Re-install WMS Pro 1.2
- Restore your WMS Pro database backup using the methods shown further above in this article
- Apply your license to the WMS Pro installation
- Upgrade WMS Pro in the following migration path: 1.2 > 2.0 > 2.1 > 2.2
