When Upgrading Discovery from versions 1.0/1.1 to a 2.x version, please note below steps as a necessary measure to ensure smooth transition and a successful upgrade.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN:
Note that there is currently a known issue with CTPlus and loading programming back into the Discovery panel from CTPlus after the upgrade, where it may disable the Web interface on the Discovery panel. To re-enable the Web interface, you will need to have a RAS keypad connected that can access the Installation menu to turn this back on. See the section at the end of this article for instructions for if the "Web Interface is not enabled / does not load after sending in the programming". This issue will be resolved in a future version of CTPlus.
IMPORTANT: A complete Backup of the configuration is needed to be performed in CTPlus prior to the upgrade
In CTPlus, connect to your Discovery panel, and perform a "Retrieve all programming" to ensure you have all the latest programming from the Discovery panel in your CTPlus system, as follows:
Now, in CTPlus, take a system export, Go to Administration > Export System
Click on the Export and the system export file will save at the Export File location (the location can be changed if needed)
IMPORTANT - Defaulting the panel:
After the firmware upgrade is completed on Discovery, you will need to perform a Factory Default of the panel. This is an important part of the upgrade to Discovery 2.x firmware, as there have been internal data structure changes in version 2.x firmware, and your panel will not operate correctly if you do not perform a default and re-load your programming.
The panel can be defaulted as follows:
- Ensure that the tamper contact is unsealed (the LEDs on the front of the Discovery panel will not be lit if it is sealed)
- Press and hold the reset button on the back of the module. Holding the reset button for 10-20 seconds will make all the LEDs on the front of the panel blink, release the reset button during this period to do a full factory default on the panel.
Note: Releasing the button just before the blinking starts or after the blinking stops will cause nothing to change in the panel.
Restoring programming
After the upgrade and default has completed, you will need to set the network settings in the panel again to be able to connect to it via CTPlus.
You will then need to reconnect to the panel in CTPlus (version 3.6 or newer), and CTPlus will automatically detect that it is now on Discovery 2.x firmware and will perform the appropriate version changes to your CTPlus system for this panel.
Then, with the Discovery panel connected and online in CTPlus, right click on the panel and perform "Send all Programming" to the Discovery, to put all programming back into the panel, as follows:
Changes to expect
Comm Devices will support new devices on USB -1 and USB-2
The Setup tab for Discovery panel comm devices allows you select the Location of the comms device being configured. The available locations are:
- On Board: used for any communications devices which are directly connected to an interface on the panel itself. (Existing devices will exist under Onboard as normal)
- USB 1: used for any communications devices which are connected to the panel via the USB-A port (requires Discovery v2 or later firmware).
- USB 2: used for any communications devices which are connected to the panel via the USB-C port (requires Discovery v2 or later firmware).
Comm Paths will support selection of new USB devices
Interface location- This field specifies the location of the communication device to be used with this path. The possible locations for each panel type are:
Discovery
- On Board
- USB 1 (requires Discovery v2 or later firmware)
- USB 2 (requires Discovery v2 or later firmware)
- UltraSync
Interface port- Select the interface port type. Interface port types depend on the panel type and selected Interface location. The possible interface ports for each panel type are:
- Discovery
- On Board
- None
- Serial
- Ethernet
- USB 1 (requires Discovery v2 or later firmware)
- WiFi
- Serial
- Ethernet
- USB 2 (requires Discovery v2 or later firmware)
- 4G module
- UltraSync (interface port option disabled)
- On Board
Users will support email address and web password. User 50 will be populated with default values
Note to log in to the Discovery panel's web interface, the Email and Discovery web password fields must be filled out. If these fields are not both filled out in your CTPlus system, and you send programming from CTPlus, you will no longer be able to log in to the Discovery web interface.
Note the following limitations of using older versions of CTPlus (older than 3.6) with Discovery -
Users will not have the Email /Password fields, and if you overwrite User 50, you won't be able to login.
2. Comm Paths may not work because the correct interface cannot be selected Onboard/USB-1 /USB-2
3. Ultrasync settings may not be sent to the panel correctly.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you find that the Web Interface is not enabled / does not load after sending in the programming:
If you find that the Web Interface is not enabled after sending the programming back in to the system, you may need to manually re-enable it. This issue is being addressed, and will be resolved in a future CTPlus update.
In the meantime, this can be re-enabled using one of the two following methods:
1. Using CTPlus
In CTPlus, you can either create a new system, or delete the panel from the existing system (ensuring you have a backup first of course), and then create a new panel, and connect it to the Discovery panel, and retrieve all programming from the panel into CTPlus.
It will then correctly detect that it is now on V2 firmware, and under Panel programming > Communications > Comm devices > Ethernet tab, it will now show the option "Enable access to Web interface from this expander". Tick this option, and press Save, and it will now be re-enabled:
After doing this, you may then need to reboot the Discovery panel for the web interface setting change to take effect.
2. Using a RAS keypad connected to the Discovery panel
The Web Interface on the Ethernet interface can be re-enabled using a RAS keypad connected to the Discovery.
NOTE: If you use this RAS keypad method of re-enabling the Web interface, NOTE that any time you send all programming or installer programming from your CTPlus system, it will once again disable the web interface, and you will need to re-enable it again. For that reason, we suggest using method "1. Using CTPlus" above.
The setting for the Web interface can be found on the RAS keypad under:
Menu > [PIN] > 19-Install Menu > 1-Communications > 1-Setup
And then use ENTER/* to proceed to "Enable Web interface". If this does not have a "YES-" next to it, press the * to change it, until it says "YES-Enable Web interface" as follows:
Once you have done this, then press ENTER, and you can now press Clear to exit the menu.
After doing this, you may then need to reboot the Discovery panel for the change to take effect.
