Overview
In order to meet strict Cybersecurity requirements, our firmware delivery is encrypted end to end, meaning that there is no point that firmware files can be tampered with. For this reasons, we cannot provide firmware as files directly, and CTPlus can't load firmware as files either. Instead, firmware is received internally by CTPlus, over an encrypted connection, using the Administration > Sync firmware feature.
However for a computer that does not have an internet connection, this article describes how to still obtain firmware.
How to obtain firmware for a system that is not connected to the internet
Option 1 - Disconnecting it from the local network, and temporarily giving it an internet connection
This option involves disconnecting the CTPlus computer from the local network, and then briefly giving it an internet connection, either with an internet point available, or by tethering it to a phone, and then performing a Sync firmware from CTPlus' Administration menu.
For this you will need to watch the Live events window to see when the sync has finished downloading firmware, and then you may disconnect the internet, and re-connect the computer to the secure LAN.
Option 2 - For computers that cannot be temporarily given internet
This procedure involves backing up the CTPlus database, restoring it on a computer with an internet connection, syncing firmware to download current firmware into the database, then backing that up, and restoring it back to the original computer. This is the only way to meet our Cybersecurity end to end encryption requirements for all firmware.
Steps to obtain updated firmware:
- Close / exit CTPlus
Double click on the "Tecom DB maintenance tool" in the system tray in the bottom right corner, to run it, as shown here:

- In the Tecom DB maintenance tool, ensure that "Windows Authentication" is selected for Authentication, and then just press the Login button, and it will connect you to the CTPlus database
Now go to the "Manual backup" tab, browse to a path that you would like to save the database backup to, and press Save. This will save a backup of your current CTPlus database

- Copy this database to another computer with an internet connection, and with the same version of CTPlus running as the backup was made from (install the same version if you need to).
- Use the Tecom DB maintenance tool on this computer, and after pressing the Login button, then go to the "Restore" tab, and restore the database backup you created from the other computer.
- Once you have restored the database, you can then run CTPlus, and go to the Administration tab, and press the Sync firmware button, and watch the Live events window, and you will see when the sync completes. This database will now have the latest firmware in it.
- Now back this database up using the Tecom DB maintenance tool, and copy it back to the original computer
- Now you can restore this database onto the original computer with the Tecom DB maintenance tool
Your CTPlus system will now have the latest firmware in the database, ready to use either by right clicking on devices in the Status and control tree, and choosing "Program firmware...", or using the Firmware loader, under Administration > Firmware loader.
