Firmware Pre V10-06-xxx
When Titan is connected to a Challenger10 panel you can use the Firmware Upgrade command to upgrade firmware or images for:
-
Challenger10 panel
-
DGP
-
Touchscreen RAS (firmware and/or touchscreen button images may need to be upgraded)
-
Memory Expander
-
3G Communications Interface
To upgrade firmware or touchscreen button images you need to have the appropriate zip file stored on the Titan computer.
Alternatively, firmware or images for certain devices can be upgraded locally via a USB connection from the device to a computer (Titan connection is not required and a zip file is not used). Refer to the device's Installation and Quick Programming Manual for details.
Notes:
-
If upgrading an early version of Challenger10 or ChallengerSE panel firmware to version V10-06 or later, refer to Firmware Post V10-06-xxx for additional details.
-
If using USB connection between the Titan computer and the Challenger panel, Titan requires extra time (about 20 s) to complete the upgrade because it needs to re-create a new connection with panel. Titan displays a message "Titan needs to reinitialise the USB panel connection. Please wait until it is complete".
-
If upgrading both firmware and images for a Touchscreen RAS via Titan, we recommend that you upgrade the images first and the firmware second. Either way will work, however, at the end of the process Titan will display the new firmware version in the Firmware Upgrade window if the firmware was upgraded last.
To upgrade firmware or images:
-
Connect the Challenger panel to Titan and activate the system.
-
From the Control menu, select Firmware Upgrade to open the Firmware Upgrade window.
-
Click the Device Type arrow, and then select the type of device to be upgraded.
-
If the system contains multiple Challenger panels, type the number of the Challenger10 panel in the Challenger No field, or click the Search button and select the panel from the Challenger list.
-
The field label displays "Device No" or "Location", as appropriate. If you are upgrading DGP or RAS firmware, type the DGP or RAS number in the Device No field, or click the Search button and select the DGP or RAS from the list. If you are upgrading firmware on an onboard module (such as a 3G Communications Interface), double-click the Location field, and then select the required module from the list.
-
Click Browse to find and select the firmware or images upgrade zip file on the Titan computer. The zip file will be opened automatically by Titan. Do not attempt to unzip the upgrade file.
-
Click Download to send the upgrade file to the device to be upgraded. A status bar displays to indicate the progress.
-
Click Upgrade to begin the upgrade process. The upgrade process may take several minutes (depending on connection speed). A completion message displays when finished.
Tip: You can click the Download/Upgrade button to send the upgrade file to the device and then begin the upgrade process automatically.
After a successful upgrade, the Firmware Upgrade window displays [Version 1] and [Version 2] labels. An asterisk displays beside a version to indicate that it's currently in use by the device.
If you've upgraded the Touchscreen RAS images, then repeat the process and select the firmware upgrade zip file in step 6 to upgrade the firmware (if applicable).
Firmware Post V10-06-xxx
Challenger10 panels and ChallengerSE panels with firmware version V10-06 (or later) no longer use numbered text words for naming things like areas, inputs, and so on. Challenger10 now uses descriptions that are based on text instead of numbers.
When you upgrade an earlier version (pre-V10-06) of panel firmware to version V10-06 (or later), then all names based on text words will be deleted from the panel. However, after upgrading the panel firmware, Titan can migrate its copy of the panel's text words to descriptions, and then you can download the descriptions to the panel.
We recommend that you use System Manager to back up the Challenger panel's database before converting Challenger10 (pre-V10-06) to Challenger10.
Note: Titan 3.4 is required for a Challenger V10-06 firmware
The following is a typical upgrade process via Titan:
